Longford County Council (Irish: Comhairle Chontae an Longfoirt) is the local authority which is responsible for County Longford in Ireland. The Council is responsible for housing and community, roads and transportation, urban planning and development, amenity and culture, and environment. The head of the council has the title of Mayor. The county seat is at Áras an Chontae in Longford.
The county council is governed by the Local Government Act 2001. The county is divided into four local electoral areas and has 21 councillors who are elected every five years by single transferable vote. The county administration is headed by a county manager, currently Tim Caffrey.

For the purpose of local elections Longford is divided into four local electoral areas: Ballymahon (6), Drumlish (4), Granard (4) and Longford (7).[1]
